Chris E. Lewallen – Success Without Intention

A Gainsville, Georgia, paramedic by day and a painter by heart. Chris Lewallen has painted for as long as he remembers, but he never dreamed of what would come from this passion. Using bright enamel paint colors on tin and wood, as well as other found objects he deems worthy, he creates his pieces of art focusing mostly on animals as his subject matter. In the early 1990’s Chris began selling his work. At the time the relationships he had with folk artists R.A. Miller and Rev. Howard Finster gave him the encouragement he needed to start traveling the art festival circuit. Chris hasn’t looked back... Read the full story

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Sheldon Museum of Art has a new exhibit open to the public until October 17, 2010. The exhibit is curated by Sheldon Director Emeritus, Norman Geske. The exhibition is composed of pieces from the Sheldon’s permanent collection, loans and a selection of works by local Lincoln artist Jeffrey Randall. The museum is open free to the public during regular hours of opperation.

Space Ghost: Talk show host and intergalactic folk art collector
The man behind the voice and the collection…
Voice actor George Lowe has more than 35 years in the business and more than 200 cartoon credits to his name. He is best known for his 10 years as the voice of Cartoon Network’s spoof on late-night show hosts, Space Ghost. Right now we can catch him as the promo voice for FX’s brand new show The League. But that isn’t the only place he is leaving his mark these days. He has another passion that gets him out of the voice studio and down to earth like the rest of us. It is his passion for art. He is an artist himself and an avid Folk Art collector amassing a collection worthy to be shown in museum exhibitions. Here’s George in his own words…
