The Painter of the People – Purvis Young

Purvis Young was a man who defied the odds growing up in the Overtown section of Miami. Considered one of the poorest neighborhoods (and the oldest) in Miami, life there was not easy for anyone.  A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Young lived through the decline and social decay that occurred over the years.  However negative that may sound, it was actually those same circumstances that would shape him into the artists he would become.
